Hello! My name is Serena and I am a member of the communications committee with the Loretto Alumnae Association. Part of my job is to organize and contribute to the monthly spotlight and this month I thought I’d introduce myself! I joined the Loretto Alumnae Association at the beginning of 2019 and have had the opportunity to hear the stories of past Loretto Students.

At the Abbey

Reflecting on my time at the Abbey, I am so grateful for the connections and opportunities I had. The Abbey laid the foundations for my current undergraduate studies in Political Science and Diaspora and Transnational at the University of Toronto. Throughout my four years, I have had such amazing teachers who have genuinely worked toward student success and encouraged us to pursue our passions. My fondest memories at Loretto were often in the classroom. I often remember the funny election speeches students would give when running for school council, the loud cheering at Charity Cup, and the flying graduations caps at convocation. While at the Loretto, I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Loretto Sisters at the United Nations in my grade eleven year. It was there where I listened to stories of economic inequalities, women’s and children’s rights, and brainstormed ways in which to resolve these conflicts. This experience sparked my interest and lead me into my current university career.

Getting Personal

I am currently in my fourth year of my undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. Like many people in their early twenties, I am excited about what the future has to offer. With my graduation date creeping up faster and faster, I often become stressed about if everything will fall into place. But, as Father Delaney reminded me through my four years at the Abbey, “we are too blessed to be stressed.”  I’ll be reciting his saying more often in the next few months, that’s for sure!

Getting Professional

I am currently working a student placement with the University of Toronto Advancement Office and am having a blast! My role includes assisting with Backpack to Briefcase events, an initiative where alumni and students can network, as well as data management, marketing and communications.

It has been lovely introducing myself! If you, or any Alumnae you know, would like to include in a Monthly Alumnae spotlight please feel welcome to reach out to the communications team at :
